Help us eliminate food deserts in Dare County
Desert Free Dare is currently forming as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Once our tax-exempt status is approved by the IRS, donations will be tax-deductible and we'll be able to accept contributions through this website.
While we finalize our nonprofit status, here are other ways you can support our mission:
Once we're able to accept donations, here's how your support will make a difference:
Fund supplies, seeds, and tools for local food production in underserved areas
Support transportation and logistics to bring fresh food to food desert communities
Help entrepreneurs start stores and services in areas that need them most
Fund data collection and community needs assessments to guide our work
Support nutrition education, cooking classes, and food assistance programs
Create employment opportunities in food production, distribution, and retail
When we begin accepting donations, we commit to full transparency in how funds are used.
We'll publish detailed annual reports showing program expenses, fundraising costs, and administrative overhead.
Our goal is to direct at least 80% of funding directly to programs that serve communities.
IRS Form 990 and financial statements will be available publicly each year.
We'll track and report on key outcomes: people served, food distributed, businesses supported, and more.

Despite being a popular tourist destination, many Dare County residents face significant barriers to accessing healthy food. Low-income families, seniors, and those without reliable transportation are especially affected. Your support will help us change this reality and build a healthier, more equitable community.
